Online recognition

The recognition method that captures XY coordinate data from handwriting in real time using devices such as tablets is known as “online recognition” in the field of handwriting recognition. Because it captures more information about the handwriting, such as the position and stroke order, without using paper, it enables highly accurate recognition. iLabo's online handwriting recognition “iHandify” series has been adopted by customers across a wide range of industries. It is used in diverse fields, including digital transformation (DX) initiatives and ICT education applications.

Offline recognition

The recognition method that processes still images captured by cameras or scanners is known as “offline recognition (OCR)” in the field of character recognition. At iLabo, we provide “offline recognition (OCR)” specialized for handwritten text. In addition to a simple product lineup tailored to different applications, such as language, mathematical formulas, and chemical formulas, we also offer customized solutions to further improve recognition accuracy. Our technology is used in a wide range of applications, including automated grading support in education, as well as the digitization of forms and handwritten notes.

Calligraphy Assistant System

Reduce the burden of correction and grading for teachers, and motivate students to improve their handwriting. An original iLabo calligraphy assistant system that automatically evaluates stroke order and handwriting quality.

In addition to handwriting learning for hiragana, katakana, and kanji taught in Japanese language classes at elementary and junior high schools, the system can also support learning letters such as the alphabet. Handwriting quality is evaluated based on various factors, including character balance, stroke endings and lifts, bends, curves, slant, and stroke connections, etc. The evaluation thresholds can be adjusted, making it possible to develop applications based on your school's or service's own evaluation criteria and grading rules. The system also comes with standard sample data for 1,026 characters based on the Japanese school-grade character allocation list. By using the “Data Edit Tool” and “Data Collect Tool,” you can create your own sample data and evaluation criteria and operate the system flexibly according to your needs. Through automated evaluation and a learning experience that allows students to check their own results, the system supports the digitalization of handwriting instruction and makes the learning process more efficient.

On-device (Native SDK)

Recognition is performed entirely within the customer's environment. Ideal for systems where security and reliability are a priority. The recognition engine can be integrated into the customer's server or the local environment where the application runs. When integrated into the application's local environment, no network connection is required for recognition. When integrated into the customer's server, communication between the application and server is required, but recognition data does not need to be sent to an external recognition server. This makes it well suited for systems that handle sensitive data or need to avoid sending data to external services.

Cloud (REST API)

No need to build or operate a recognition server. Start using handwriting recognition simply by calling the API. The roots of iLabo's handwriting recognition technology can be traced back to research conducted at the Nakagawa Laboratory at Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology in the late 1980s.
